TL;DR
In free mode, KlickSEO Lens does not send any data off your device. Everything runs locally in your browser. Pro features that require API calls (AI rewrites, SERP comparison) transmit only the data needed for that feature, only with your explicit action, and only after you sign in.
01Data we process locally (free mode)
When you open KlickSEO Lens on a web page, the extension reads the DOM of that page in your browser. The data processed includes:
- HTML structure (headings, images, links, scripts, stylesheets)
- Meta tags (title, description, Open Graph, Twitter Cards, JSON-LD)
- Visible text content for readability analysis
- Page performance metrics from the browser's
PerformanceObserverAPI (LCP, CLS, INP) - Computed CSS coverage approximation
This data is processed entirely within your browser. It is not transmitted to any server. It is retained only in chrome.storage.local (your browser's local storage) for these specific purposes:
- Theme preference (light / dark / auto)
- Language preference (FR / EN / DE / ES / IT / PT)
- Custom quick links you create yourself in Settings
- Inspector Mode panel position per domain
You can clear this data at any time by uninstalling the extension or via Chrome's storage controls.
02Network requests made from your browser
In free mode, the extension makes the following HTTP requests directly from your browser to the origin of the page you are auditing:
GET /robots.txton the audited site's origin, to display its contentHEAD /sitemap.xml(and sitemaps declared inrobots.txt) to confirm presenceHEADrequest on the current page URL to determine its HTTP status code (used for the icon badge)
These requests use the same credentials and cookies your browser would use for any other request to those origins. They are not proxied through our servers.
03Data we process in Pro mode (when available)
The Pro tier introduces optional features that require API calls to our backend or to third-party APIs. The Pro tier is not yet available. When it ships, this section will be updated to detail:
- Which features transmit data to our backend
- What third-party providers receive what data (OpenRouter for AI rewrites, Haloscan / DataForSEO for SERP data, Google PageSpeed Insights for field CWV)
- Where audit data is stored if you sign in to a workspace
- Your rights regarding deletion and export
Pro features will be opt-in. Free features remain fully local.
04Permissions justification
The extension requests these permissions, each strictly necessary for its function:

No permission is used for tracking, advertising or analytics on your browsing.
05Third parties
In free mode: none. The extension communicates only with the page you are auditing (for robots.txt and sitemap.xml requests).
In Pro mode (when available): only providers strictly required for the activated Pro feature, listed transparently in this policy.
06Children
KlickSEO Lens is a professional SEO tool. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
07Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves. Changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date at the top. Material changes (new third parties, new data flows) will be announced in the extension's release notes.
